The History of Hayward House
The property, originally two dwelling houses, was owned by the family of William Cave who died in 1878.
In the house deeds dated 1902 it is stated that behind the main house an outbuilding was used as an Inn and known by the name "The Three Cups".
In the early 1900's John and Elizabeth Morse established a Bakehouse to the rear and on his father's death in 1918 his son, Herbert Ebenezer Morse, became Master Baker.
At the time Herbert Morse died in 1926 the property consisted of a dwelling house, shop together with the Bakehouse, and one privy and the yard to the rear.
When John Percival Owen took ownership in 1926 the property comprised of a house, shop, and outbuildings with a cottage adjoining the Bakehouse and yard. He was a Motor Engineer and established Owen's Garage on the front and ran a bicycle repair shop at the rear.
James Roger Simpson acquired the garage (known as Simpson's Garage), dwelling house and shop in 1954.
It was sold in 1969 to John and Jean Branston who lived in the house and converted the garage into light industrial premises manufacturing sculptural reproductions which were sold in the shop. In the mid-70's the property was converted to family use only. In 1983 a Bed & Breakfast business was established which continues to the present day.
